Eryl's role in the European Parliament's committees
One of the main roles of MEPs is to put forward the views of their constituents when European legislation is under discussion and to vote in an appropriate way. The work of the European Parliament is divided into 20 standing committees, each of which specialises in a particular field. As the proposed legislation is usually very detailed and technical, each MEP specialises in a small number of areas. Eryl is a full member of the Committee for Industry, External Trade, Research and Energy. She is also the Co-ordinator on this committee for the Party of European Socialists. She is also a Substitute Member of the Committee for Women's Rights and Equal Opportunities.
Eryl is also a Member of the European Parliament Delegation for relations with South America and senior Vice-President of the Scientific and Technological Options Assessment (STOA) panel within the European Parliament which has initiated a number of reports.
